Marty McFly's Future was set in 2015. We take a look at some of the predictions that were spot on, and others that were not!

In Back to the Future Part II, Marty McFly travels to 2015. The future he finds is one which has captured the imagination of millions over the years, and the time that once seemed like an out of this world dream, is now our present. Although we may not have Marty McFly’s hover boards and flying cars, the movie did depict a surprisingly similar vision of some of 2015’s gadgets.
Biometrics was an extravagant idea that was brought to life in Back to the Future Part II. The movie imagined 2015 as a time when fingerprint scanning would be commonplace, used for home security and electronic payment. People could unlock the door to their homes by pressing their thumb on the handle. Although we’re not quite there yet, fingerprint scanning is becoming more widespread with the latest versions of iPad and iPhone, the Huawei Ascend Mate 7, and more using fingerprint scanners.
The wall-mounted television that was over the fireplace in the McFly’s living room looks just like any wall-mounted flat screen TV that can be found in a home around the world today. Along with TVs, video telephony is another feature that has also become ubiquitous, with apps like Skype and FaceTime widely used the world over.
Credit to the imagination of those who came up with this version of 2015; however their biggest omission was the prediction of the Internet, and our reliance on being connected on-the-go, 24/7. But, there are some things we can be grateful for that Back to Future got wrong about the year 2015, namely the double ties that were worn, and the dependence on fax as communication!
There is plenty in the film that resembles actual reality as we know it today. But, we're already living in a futuristic world that far surpasses the technological promises made back in 1989!
